How to Archive a Class Team in Microsoft Teams

End of the School Year Archiving

The end of the school year is here, and you will want to ensure that your class teams are archived before the start of summer. Don’t worry, archiving a team does not delete a team, you will always have access to an archived team. Archiving a team freezes activity, preventing unsupervised use of the team. Students also have access to an archived team but will have read only rights. Archived teams will be removed from your active teams list, but you still have access to all files and content. This is great for teachers reusing classroom content year after year.

Archiving teams

Teams can be automatically or manually archived. Before you start manually archiving, please consult with your IT Department to confirm your school’s archiving process. If your school uses Microsoft School Data Sync, teams will automatically archive on a specific date your school has set. If you manually created your class teams, it is very likely that you will manually archive your class teams. You can use Microsoft’s archiving guidance to manage your teams and use the video below as a guide.
